African Americans voting.. 2005. Image.
4 March 2011. <http://www.discoveryeducation.com/>.

African Americans voting. The Selma to Montgomery march vividly dramatized the stubborn denial to them in parts of the nation of the most basic of democratic rights: the right to vote. In the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Congress added teeth to the guarantee of voting rights contained in the 1964 Civil Rights Act by authorizing the attorney general to supervise voting registration in states where African Americans had been prevented from voting. Within a year, their registration in the South increased dramatically. 1968 photo.
